Programs & Projects Overview

Change Chemistry’s programs and projects provide companies with opportunities to support the system-wide transition necessary to accelerate the shift towards safer, more sustainable chemicals. Our programs are designed with members' needs and challenges in mind, bringing together stakeholders from across the value chain to:

  • Build alignment on chemical innovation priorities
  • Identify and lower barriers to adoption and scale more sustainable solutions
  • Transform markets to create a strong demand for safer alternatives
  • Create a supportive policy environment

The impetus for all projects is driven by you, our members. All Change Chemistry members are encouraged to take on leadership roles and participate in projects, and there is no limit on how many representatives from your company can engage. You set strategic objectives and goals, and we provide the support of our staff and connection to our broader community.

Change Chemistry programs are supported in 4 areas

Market Activation and Transformation:

Change Chemistry outreach, collaborations, and policy efforts create a supportive ecosystem that enables the transition to more sustainable chemicals and materials. This includes responding to external pressures for change and enabling a supportive structure to create large-scale shifts within the market.

  • Policy & Advocacy: Our policy and advocacy work advances policy incentives to accelerate the development, commercialization, and scale of sustainable chemistry products and processes at the state and federal level in the US as well as the EU.

  • Partnerships: Change Chemistry regularly engages with NGOs, other business groups, and professional societies to support mission and to amplify our work.

Supply Chain Innovation Projects:

Change Chemistry Supply Chain Innovation Projects bring together companies from all levels of the supply chain to identify and address the barriers that might limit their ability to develop and commercialize safer and more sustainable alternatives. This group aims to create alignment across the supply chain to enable the scale and adoption of safer alternatives. We currently have two Supply Chain Innovation Projects:

  • Scaling Sustainable Solvents

Peer Learning Communities:

Change Chemistry Peer Learning Communities (PLCs) are the “home base” for all members. These groups meet monthly to learn from each other and industry experts. Members are encouraged to share best practices, tools, and successes with their peers and identify barriers and opportunities impeding the scale and adoption of sustainable chemistry. The PLCs help build alignment across the supply chain around chemical innovation needs and create a space for actionable change. The current PLCs are:

  • Retailer Leadership Council (RLC): The Change Chemistry Retailer Leadership Council leverages retailers’ knowledge of market drivers to strategically highlight where green and sustainable chemistry innovations may have the most impact on consumer-facing products. Retailers play an important role in creating clear demand signals for safer and more sustainable products.

  • Startup Network: Shines a light on innovators with green and sustainable chemistry solutions who are not yet known to the members of the commercial value chain. Members of the startup network build connections with strategic partners, and larger members identify innovative sustainable chemistry technologies.

  • Supporting Champions: Change Chemistry convenes a sustainable chemistry business resource group to support champions to advocate for the adoption and implementation of green and sustainable chemistry within their respective organizations. Members meet regularly to discuss challenges and opportunities, and to learn from seasoned professionals and peers across the chemical value chain.
