Programs & Projects Overview

Interested in one of our projects? Please reach out to Jenny MacKellar, Program Director

Change Chemistry’s programs and projects provide companies opportunities to support the system-wide transition necessary to accelerate the shift towards safer, more sustainable chemicals. Our programs bring together stakeholders from across the value chain to:

  • Build alignment on chemical innovation priorities
  • Identify and lower barriers to adoption and scale more sustainable solutions
  • Transform markets to create a strong demand for safer alternatives
  • Create a supportive policy environment

The impetus for all projects is driven by you, our members. All Change Chemistry members are encouraged to take on leadership roles and participate in projects. You set strategic objectives and goals. We provide the support of our staff.

Change Chemistry projects are supported in three areas:

Active Learning Communities:

The Change Chemistry Active Learning Communities (ALC) are the “home base” for all members. These groups meet monthly to learn from each other as well as industry experts. Members are encouraged to share best practices, tools, and successes with their peers and identify barriers impeding scale and adoption of sustainable chemistry. The ALCs help build alignment across the supply chain around chemical innovation needs and identify projects of interest. The current ALCs are:

  • Retailer Leadership Council (RLC): The Change Chemistry Retailer Leadership Council leverages retailers’ knowledge of market drivers to strategically highlight where green chemistry innovations may have the most impact.

  • Supply Chain Working Group (SCWG): The Change Chemistry Supply Chain Working Group brings together companies from all levels of the supply chain to identify and address the barriers that might limit their ability to develop and commercialize green alternatives. This group aims to create alignment across the supply chain to enable scale and adoption of safer alternatives.

Market Activation & Transformation:

The Market Activation & Transformation working group focuses on activities, outreach, collaborations, and projects that enable the transition to more sustainable chemicals and materials. These include responses to external pressures for change and the supportive structure to create large-scale shifts within the market place. Projects identified by the ALCs or the broader membership come to life here.

  • Collaborative Innovation Program:  Targets specific chemical functions, challenges the chemical product supply chain, brings together stakeholders to address impediments to adoption.

  • Startup Network:  Shines a light on innovators with green and sustainable chemistry solutions who are not yet known to the members of the commercial value chain.

  • Sustainable Chemistry Alliance: dvances supportive policy at the state and federal level. We also support the adoption and implementation of Europe’s Green Deal and Safe and Sustainable by Design framework.

  • Executive Forum: Launching in 2023, the Executive Forum is a peer engagement group that targets C-suite professionals to share and address barriers to the scale and adoption of more sustainable chemicals. Executives will articulate commitments for sustainable action and systematic change within their organizations.

Amplification & Strategic Engagement

At the most fundamental level, Change Chemistry strives to convene stakeholders across the supply chain to scale and accelerate the adoption of green and sustainable chemicals. We regularly gather stakeholders during hybrid events, webinars, workshops, and discussion.

  • Hybrid events – introduces technical topics, networking opportunities, and discussion sessions

  • Webinars – members or external experts presents topics of interest

  • Annual Member Awards – recognizes member companies that leads the way towards a sustainable future

  • Communications & outreach – shares best practices, information about functional replacements for chemicals of concern

  • Thought leadership – continues to push the industry towards safer, more sustainable chemicals through external articles, conferences, and workshops.
