Collaborating to Solve Sustainability Challenges: A Macroanalysis of Microfibres - Part 3

Tuesday, January 21, 2025
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (EST)
Category: Webinars

From climate change to the adverse effects of forever chemicals, we are facing a number of pressing sustainability issues. Solving these global challenges will require paradigm shifts and a move from ‘silo thinking’ to ‘impactful collaboration’. Microplastics and microfibres are a prime example because they are gaining increased attention due to their prevalence in the environment and the growing number of reports on human health. However, there is uncertainty on their effects because the science and knowledge are still developing. Finding solutions will need a nuanced, long-term approach as well as collaborations across value chains, industries, academia, legislators and more.

This webinar series will explore the importance of collaboration when tackling microplastics/fibres and highlight innovative work taking place to better understand and reduce the long-term adverse impact. For part 3, we are excited to be joined by The Microfibre Consortium (TMC) and Ohana Public AffairsElliot Bland from TMC and Analoli del Cueto from Ohana Public Affairs will dive into the fibre fragmentation of textiles as a source of microplastics/fibres, industry efforts towards developing solutions, and the policy and regulatory landscape around microfibres.

Speakers

Elliot Bland

Researcher at The Microfibre Consortium

Elliot is a Researcher at The Microfibre Consortium (TMC) and has led the analysis of data housed within the TMC Data Portal. He has a background in laundry technology R&D and 5+ years of experience in research into microfibre pollution from textiles. TMC is leading the textile industry in reducing microfibre release to protect our environment towards a vision of zero impact from fibre fragmentation from textiles to the natural environment. TMC looks to connect and translate deep academic research, with the reality of commercial supply chain production to offer solutions to its brand, retail and supplier signatories and ultimately for the greater good of our ecosystems.
