At Dow, Rafael is responsible for defining and accelerating the EMEAI Sustainable, Digital & Growth Transformation Strategy.
Externally, he is the Chair of CEFIC (European Chemical Industry Association) Mid Century Vision Molecules Manager, while also serving on the International Advisory Board of the World Energy Council, FT Manufacturing Advisory Board and being the Chair of the Industry Advisory Panel of the Energy Charter Treaty.
Rafael is an economist with over 20 years of experience within the chemical industry. He holds a master's degree in Economics from the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium, and an MBA from Northwood University in Michigan. He also completed his executive education at the University of Chicago (Executive MBA), the University of Oxford on Blockchain and Singularity University on Exponential & Disruptive Technologies. Rafael is also the author of the Book “The Chemical Industry by 2050” and currently working on his new book “The Chemical Industry under the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Molecules vs. Qubits”.

Dr. Joel Tickner is a Professor of Public Health at the UMass Lowell. He is founder and Executive Director of Change Chemistry (formerly Green Chemistry & Commerce Council); Executive Director of the Association for the Advancement of Alternatives Assessment (A4), a professional association. He is a leading expert on application of green chemistry and alternatives assessment in science and policy. He has served on a number of EPA and National Academy of Sciences advisory committees and advises government agencies around the world. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana and a Doctor of Science Degree from the Department of Work Environment at UMass Lowell.

Dr. Peter Nieuwenhuizen is Chair of the Board of Change Chemistry (formerly GC3, the Green Commerce & Coalition), founded in the US.
Peter holds a PhD in chemistry from Leiden University. He started his career in AkzoNobel, the coatings & chemicals company, where he held positions in R&D sales & marketing, supply chain, as CTO, and in sustainability. Peter also worked as a strategy consultant for Arthur D. Little, and was co-founder of ECBF, the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund.
Peter lives in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, with his spouse and two children in Amersfoort.

CEO at DUDE CHEM GmbH
Sonja Jost is an inventor and engineer as well as a serial chemistry entrepreneur.
At the end of 2019, she co-founded DUDE CHEM, a virtual green deeptech manufacturer of chemicals of which she is the CEO.
She has been appointed to different boards and high-tech juries, e.g. to the Economic Advisory Board of the German Green Party of the German Bundestag, the Editorial Board of the U.S. peer-reviewed journal “Green Chemistry Letters and Reviews”, the jury of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator which she also supports with tech due diligences, or the Fraunhofer Institute IMW.
She received various awards and recognitions for her work and has been highlighted as one out of ten of the “100 most important heads of the Berlin economy 2023” by the Tagesspiegel. She was awarded with the “Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award 2021”, for her entrepreneurial courage and success. Handelsblatt, as well as ZEIT online listed Jost among “25 female inventors who are changing our world”, Capital magazine named her repeatedly “40 under 40” entrepreneurs, and the German business magazine Business Punk chose her as #1 of their 2018 watch list “100 startups, makers, creatives”.
Since 2017, she is an elected member of the General Assembly of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Berlin and since 2022, she is their vice president.
In 2019, Jost was appointed as ambassador of the initiative “Germany – Land of Ideas” of the German Government and the Federation of German Industries BDI.
Jost gives advice to governmental organizations, scientific institutions, NGOs, as well as several political parties in Germany, the U.S., and in the EU. She has co-founded and initiated several campaigns and networks that support the translation process of scientific findings into industry which she also promotes as frequent guest on economic and political panel discussions and contributions with guest comments for Handelsblatt, Frankfurter Rundschau, Wirtschaftswoche. Jost was a Bilderberg Meeting participant.

Jenny is responsible for coordinating the expansive portfolio of Change Chemistry member offerings that include projects, work groups and more. She works closely with the Change Chemistry membership to help organizations optimize their engagement. Jenny is also lead on all Change Chemistry events, including the annual Innovators Roundtables and European Forums. Before joining the Change Chemistry, Jenny spent nine years at the ACS Green Chemistry Institute coordinating green chemistry education initiatives, awards programs, and events, including the annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference. Prior to that, Jenny worked with various U.S. government agencies, including the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. In these roles, she focused on science communication, science policy, federal grant management, and information technology solutions. Jenny holds a M.Sc. degree in molecular and integrative physiology from the University of Michigan and received her B.S. from the University of Denver in molecular biology with minors in chemistry and Spanish.

Advocacy Manager for Flame Retardants at Clariant
Adrian Beard is advocacy manager for flame retardants in the Business Unit Additives of Clariant. He is a senior expert in fire safety and environmental properties of phosphorus-based flame retardants. Since 2017, he chairs the association for non-halogenated phosphorus, inorganic and nitrogen flame retardants (Pinfa), as sector group of Cefic. He holds a doctorate in analytical chemistry from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and a diploma in geology from the University of Bayreuth, Germany.

Within the OECD’s Chemicals Programme Eeva leads the Risk Reduction Programme, the Good Laboratory Practices and Mutual Acceptance of Data Programmes and the Chemical Accidents Programme.
Risk Reduction - Working with OECD member countries and stakeholders to advance risk reduction of chemicals through both regulatory risk management and non-regulatory approaches. This includes projects related to regulatory tools, sustainable chemistry, plastics, substitution, socioeconomic assessment and shifting to safer alternatives for PFAS.
Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Mutual Acceptance of Data Programmes - Leading the work on international collaboration and coordination on compliance with GLP in test facilities to ensure confidence in non-clinical laboratory studies and saving governments and industry more than 300 million euro per year through Mutual Acceptance of Data.
Chemical Accidents - Sharing experiences amongst governments and other stakeholders and recommending policy options for enhancing the prevention of, preparedness for and response to chemical accidents.

Elke is Founder and CEO of Apeiron with over 20 years of experience in the chemical industry and consultancy and is a specialist in process engineering, environmental technology, chemical regulation and the circular economy. Prior to founding Apeiron in 2009, she worked in the waste and recycling sector as well as the polymer industry. Elke is a bridge builder between authorities and industry, successfully defending her clients from a scientific and regulatory perspective while addressing the concerns of authorities and NGOs. Apeiron are acknowledged to be market leaders in helping industry minimize exposure and emissions, while driving safe and sustainable substitution. Dr. Asli Tamer Vestlund is responsible for creating and managing the European membership programs and the European policy strategy, including coordinating the European Advocacy efforts. She works closely with the Change Chemistry European membership to help organizations optimize their Change Chemistry engagement.
Before joining Change Chemistry, Asli has spent 7 years at the H&M Group as a Global Public Affairs Lead and Product Compliance Specialist. Prior to that, Asli has worked for the Furniture Industry Research Association in the UK as a research lead, project and program manager and in the leadership team as well as for ABB International in various roles including health and safety advisor and project manager. Asli was awarded her PhD in the field of bioaerosols in compost from Cranfield University. Asli also has a Masters of Engineering in Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering from the University of Surrey.

Jan Ahlskog is a Senior Director with more than 25 years of experience in public affairs advising top global consumer goods companies; food, chemicals and mining industries; and high-tech and transport companies. Jan has extensive experience in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and green transition. From 1993 to 2004, he worked for a leading international public affairs firm heading the Public Policy Management Practice.
Before that, he was a member of the EFTA Consultative Committee and served as Counsellor on European Affairs for the Finnish Central Chamber of Commerce in Helsinki. Jan holds a MA from Schiller University.

Government Affairs Director at Dow
Based in Brussels, Alexander is Dow's Government Affairs Director for EU Chemicals Management & Italy. In this role, he leads Dow's government affairs efforts in the field of EU chemicals policy, including the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability and specific regulatory initiatives within REACH, CLP and related legislation. In addition, Alexander also oversees government affairs for Italy. Immediately prior to joining Dow, Alexander was the Deputy Head of European Government Relations at First Solar, a US-based solar photovoltaic manufacturer, where he oversaw engagement activities in the field of environmental policy, raw materials, and sustainability. Alexander also previously worked for Brussels-based consulting firm Burson Cohn & Wolfe and Plastics Europe. Alexander holds a Master’s Degree in EU Politics from the London School of Economics.

Jesse Martens is Head of Global Public Affairs at AkzoNobel. Based in the company headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, he advises the AkzoNobel leadership and guides the public affairs function for the company's key markets.
He works on topics such as the green transition, innovation, chemicals policy, competitiveness and international relations. In addition, he is a board member and chairperson of the multinationals committee for the main Dutch business association VNO-NCW, and he is involved in several other European and international platforms.
Prior to starting at AkzoNobel in 2018, he worked at PGGM (a pension fund service provider), as a consultant and political staffer. Jesse holds a masters degree in political science from the University of Amsterdam. A Dutch national, he lives in Amersfoort, and is married with two children.

El is Senior Manager for Regulatory Advocacy at Reckitt, having worked extensively in regulatory and compliance throughout the chemical industry supply chain. Prior to joining Reckitt, El began her career at Brenntag UK, also taking up regulatory positions at Croda and Synthomer, representing industry at various trade associations including CIA, CTPA, EPDLA, and AISE. In her current role at Reckitt, she works on ingredient defence for non-APIs globally, having previously managed the ongoing compliance of Reckitt’s Hygiene portfolio.

Benjamin studied politics and economics (B.A. European Studies, University of Osnabrück, Germany) and holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Governance (University of Utrecht, Netherlands). He has 10 years of experience in consultancy and public affairs in the chemical industry. Building on leading roles within a think tank, a chemical industry association and global companies, Benjamin integrates different perspectives to enable cooperation between stakeholders and to foster innovation.
In his current role at Henkel AG, Benjamin is responsible for leading the Industry Affairs program for Henkel Adhesive Technologies.

Paula Diaz is the Chair of the Downstream Users of Chemicals Co-ordination Group (DUCC). DUCC is a platform of 11 European associations which represent “downstream” industries ranging from cosmetics and detergents to aerosols, paints, inks, toners, pressroom chemicals, adhesives and sealants, construction chemicals, fragrances, disinfectants, lubricants and chemical distributors industries. The group's main objective is to contribute, with a common voice, to the successful implementation of the requirements of the REACH and CLP Regulations. . Paula is also a Senior Regulatory Affairs Manager at the Association of the European Adhesive & Sealant Industry (FEICA). Paula has an extensive experience supporting chemical companies to place their products on the European Union market and to ensure market continuity. Before joining FEICA, Paula worked as a Project Manager at ReachCentrum and as a Regulatory Expert and Project Manager at Enhesa.

Nicolas studied polymer sciences and holds a PhD in Physics on the topic of polymeric solar cells. He is a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in leading roles within the chemical industry. With a solid background in Innovation, he has spearheaded global teams and collaborated with industrial and academic partners to develop innovative solutions. Currently serving as Senior Manager Responsible Chemistry at Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, he leads the responsible chemistry program for Henkel Adhesive Technologies.

Tatiana graduated from the University of Cádiz (Spain) and is specialized in Environmental and Food Chemistry. She also holds a Master’s degree in both Environmental Impact Assessment and Occupational Health and Safety.
Previously she worked for the Spanish occupational institute ISTAS and the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI).
She is Spanish and speaks Spanish, English and basic French.

Chief EU Policy Advocate at Chem Trust
Stefan Scheuer has been working with CHEM Trust as Chief EU Policy Advocate since December 2019. Stefan Scheuer has extensive experience of shaping and influencing EU energy and environmental policies, including chemical and water policy. He works with his consultancy team to develop advocacy strategies for forge alliances to win political majorities for effective action. Since 2015, he has represented the environmental, health and consumer interests as a member of the Management Board of the European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki. Since 2011, he has headed up the Coalition for Energy Savings, the cross-sector stakeholder alliance, which helped to put the energy efficiency target. In the past, he led the REACH and water campaigns as Policy Director at the European Environmental Bureau, the largest network of environmental citizens' organizations in Europe. By academic background, Stefan Scheuer is a hydrologist.

Alexandra McPherson is director of the Investor Environmental Health Network (IEHN) for Clean Production Action (CPA)—an environmental solutions-based nonprofit. Through IEHN, Alexandra provides expertise, guidance, and counsel to investors on engagement strategies that positively impact corporate behavior on chemical footprinting, more sustainable and safer chemistry innovations and environmental justice.
Alexandra leverages her deep competency in communications and partnership development to build multistakeholder initiatives that motivate change and investment in environmental solutions critical to chemical pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Her work includes convening global leaders from finance, industry, environmental advocacy, and government to influence timebound targets in innovative platforms such as the United Nation’s Global Framework on Chemicals: For a Planet Free of Harm from Chemicals and Waste. Ms. McPherson’s partnership work with academia has resulted in the Collaborative for the Regenerative Economy (CoRE) with the University at Buffalo's Materials Design and Innovation Department and Transition Finance for Sustainable Chemicals and Materials with the Sustainable Chemistry Catalyst at University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Alexandra co-founded Clean Production Action and is a principal of Niagara Share LLC. She is a graduate of the Stanford University School of Business LEAD Executive Education program and obtained her undergraduate degree in Communications at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). She serves on the board of Clean + Healthy NY, UNH’s Sustainability Advisory Board and Change Chemistry’s Member Advisory Committee.
She loves travel, exploring the wilderness on foot or on horse with her husband, almost adult children, and dogs, as well as diving into culinary creations for family and friends and stewarding gardens, forests and fields of her family’s farm in Western New York.

Caroline Boden is a director of shareholder advocacy with Mercy Investment services, covering portfolio issues such as the protection of human rights, safer chemical management, sustainable agriculture, and nutrition. Prior to joining Mercy Investment Services in 2016, Caroline was a research associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. where she focused on the geopolitics of the Arctic, as well as security and defense issues in Northern Europe. Caroline holds a Bachelor of Arts in French and international studies from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master of Science in European politics from the University of Glasgow. She currently serves on the board of directors for Seventh Generation Interfaith Coalition for Responsible Investment.

Head of Stewardship, Europe at BNP Paribas Asset Management
Rachel is based in London as Head of Stewardship for Europe for BNPP Asset Management. BNPP AM is one of Europe’s largest asset managers, with €540 billion in assets under management (as at end December 2023). She has more than 30 years of wide-ranging experience at the intersection of sustainability, international development and responsible investment.
Her role encompasses engagement with European companies to drive better policy, practice and disclosure on many sustainability issues, as well as voting at their annual meetings. She also participates in various initiatives designed to encourage policymakers to adopt laws, regulations and standards to deliver sustainable and equitable economies.
Rachel represents BNPP AM in several key investor networks; in relation to the chemical sector she is a member of the Steering Committee of the Investor Initiative on Hazardous Chemicals (IIHC) and ShareAction’s Decarbonisation Initiative.

Peggy Lefort is the Pollution and Circular Economy at UNEP FI. Prior to joining UNEP FI, Peggy spent 20 years in the banking industry. Peggy worked for HSBC for 17 years, in France and Mexico, where she developed and implemented innovative structured finance solutions in various asset classes, including marine finance, real estate finance, and securitization. Prior to joining HSBC, Peggy began her career as a tax lawyer at the French law firm Gide Loyrette Nouel and as a tax advisor at Société Générale.

Melissa Schisler, a 27-year employee at The Dow Chemical Company, is the Global Director of Dow’s Toxicology and Environmental, Research and Consulting (TERC) Organization. In her long career Melissa has held a variety of roles in the company including research roles in Analytical Sciences and the toxicology organization where she was the primary study director and lead scientist for genetic and molecular toxicology studies. Melissa has also held roles in product stewardship where she rose to the Product Sustainability Leader for Dow’s Industrial Solution and Hydrocarbons businesses. In her current role, Melissa leads the TERC global organization and serves as the key interface with the businesses in the development of product safety tools that can be used in the innovation process of ‘safer materials’ a strategic priority for the company.

Anna Zhenova is the CEO of Green Rose Chemistry, a mission driven consultancy working to accelerate the sustainable chemical transition. She started her career in the US, working in labs at MIT, Caltech, and Carnegie Mellon before applying her chemistry expertise to advance green chemistry at the GC3. After earning her Ph.D. at the University of York, she founded Green Rose Chemistry in 2019 to provide unbiased expertise to companies transitioning to sustainability. She works with clients in industries ranging from fragrances to construction manufacturing, bringing green chemistry out of the lab and into practical use

In her current role, Kristen is responsible for developing both customer and value chain partnerships to integrate recycled carbon based CarbonSmartTM products as the next generation of sustainable materials.
Before joining LanzaTech, Kristen spent 10 years at BASF. She began her career as a Project Engineer and subsequently transitioned to commercial management including Strategy, Business Development and Global Key Account Management, with a focus on Home Care markets. Kristen has a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University and an MBA from Fuqua School of Business.

Jeroen Verhoeven is Vice President Polymers and Chemicals at the Neste Renewable Products BU. Jeroen is father of 3 boys and therefore highly driven by Neste's purpose of creating a healthier planet for our children.His organisation builds partnerships across the PetChem value chain, with the goal of bringing sustainable solutions all the way to brand owners and OEMs. Jeroen started his career as a product manager at DSM. After DSM he moved to GE Bayer Silicones, Momentive and Hexion where Jeroen held several leadership positions in Sales, Supply Chain and Business Transformation. In 2020 Jeroen started with Neste. Jeroen holds an MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering and Management Science and completed an Executive MBA at the Rotterdam School of Management.

He holds a master's degree in Economics from the College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium, and an MBA from Northwood University in Michigan. He also completed his executive education at the University of Chicago (Executive MBA), the University of Oxford on Blockchain and Singularity University on Exponential & Disruptive Technologies. Rafael is also the author of the Book “The Chemical Industry by 2050” and currently working on his new book “The Chemical Industry under the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Molecules vs. Qubits”.

Dr. Joel Tickner is a Professor of Public Health at the UMass Lowell. He is founder and Executive Director of Change Chemistry (formerly Green Chemistry & Commerce Council); Executive Director of the Association for the Advancement of Alternatives Assessment (A4), a professional association. He is a leading expert on application of green chemistry and alternatives assessment in science and policy. He has served on a number of EPA and National Academy of Sciences advisory committees and advises government agencies around the world. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana and a Doctor of Science Degree from the Department of Work Environment at UMass Lowell.
